THE CREATOR
Munish Narula, a former Investment Banker and a Wharton MBA is the founder and president of Tiffin Indian cuisine. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Hotel Restaurant Management and a MS in Hospitality Administration from Johnson & Wales University, he started working for a full service chain restaurant where he quickly moved up the ladder to reach the position of Area Manager with 11 restaurants under his management. After earning a MBA degree in Finance from Wharton and a stint with bulge bracket Investment Bank, he came back to the food service business when he founded, the now nationally acclaimed, Karma restaurant in Philadelphia. It was during his time with Karma that he identified the need of providing fresh nutritious Indian food to people at affordable prices and so the idea for Tiffin.com was born.
Tiffin started as a web only and delivery only concept out of a small store front in the Northern Liberties area of Philadelphia and soon evolved into maybe the first multi platform restaurant in the country, offering a full ecommerce website, delivery and carry out on the phone and dine-in, all from the same location. The successful formula led to the opening of the second location in Mt. Airy followed by Elkins Park, Wynnewood and Bryn Mawr, sandwiched around the opening of Tiffin etc., an Indian street food concept. The very latest from tiffin is a 5,000 square foot theatrical ethnic restaurant. The focus of this first-class restaurant will be on sophisticated Indian fusion grills using time honored Indian grilling methods. Unique and unconventional to the east coast, this groundbreaking restaurant concept will transform the Philadelphia dining scene and thus serve as both an amenity to Philadelphians and as a destination location for people throughout the tri-state area.
Tiffin has often been credited with the explosion in the popularity of the Indian food in the greater Philadelphia area by leading magazines and publications. Under Munish Narula's leadership Tiffin recently won "America's Next Top Restaurant Franchise" contest, a contest that was open to all restaurant concepts in USA and Canada and had 170 concept contesting for the grand prize. The grand prize includes providing tiffin with all necessary legal, consulting and operations services to open their first franchise restaurant.
Tiffin and Munish Narula have been actively involved in the communities they do business in and support all fund raising and other efforts to improve the life and locales around them.
